Northfield, Illinois-based Medline Industries Inc. is opening a 630,000-square-foot distribution center in west Phoenix.
The 4-story building at 8787 W. Buckeye Road sits on 36 acres, and was built by McShane Construction and designed by Ware-Macomb. The 37-foot tall facility stores more than 350,000 medical devices and supplies for hospitals and other health facilities.
The building has 60 truck bays and is one of more than 40 distribution centers located across the country.
The new facility allows for just-in-time delivery at all levels of the medical supply chain, as health care purchasing habits are changing.
Medline can customize orders being shipped from the new distribution facility in Phoenix to accommodate customers’ needs. The company’s supply chain logistics and expertise allow it to respond to customer needs while managing and maintaining appropriate inventories.
Medline also operates its own fleet of trucks.
The company had a 150,000-square-foot distribution facility in Tolleson, but moved into this bigger facility to serve growing customer needs.
With $8 billion in revenue, the privately owned company employs more than 15,000 people in more than 90 countries.
