The study examined six key factors: cost of living, taxes, healthcare, weather, crime and residents’ overall well-being. New York, on the other hand, is the worst state for retirement, owing mostly to the nation’s highest tax burden and a very high overall cost of living. Among traditional retirement hotspots, Arizona fared the best at No. 9.
